Its not the letter of appreciation of all it has done through ages of human civilization and society. It probably can be counted as latest edition of utilizing it without actually using it in actual way.
I probably sometime as bairn, had learnt something as history on piece of newspaper which was used as book cover of ‘shakuntalum’ which was dated long back of eighties. As first standard as well, I might have learnt writing spelling of it as JUTA (shoes). Another instance of it does come when I was on onset of all laddish crap and had a gang which was one to one to JUTA gang. The leader was called TEJU and to rhyme it well and making symmetry much more prominent we always joshed with standing joke of “ TEJU KE PAPA KE JUTA”
Another part that probably is the last time I have learnt anything about it, is again back to boyhood at standard ninth, when I read “a man can always be judged by the shoes he wears”. Although the story as was called “the umbrella man” at its final step refuted the statement itself, but I believe the statement did make a impact on me for all these years and at least up to major extent.
If you are erupted with the question why shoes?, there are two reasons I may equip you with. Reason one: choices are reflection of individual’s attitude, and, if made involuntary. Moreover, shoes are one of the most forbidden stuff people have in their body. Reason two is I have never bothered about anything else or more frankly I really don’t know why not apparels or watches or other accessories.
Take a look around. There are many shoes around you . Black, brown, white, blue. Even you might have, at times, shoes with red soles and patches of weird bright gay colors . Different personality, different shoes and still different shapes. Fact is designers always have mind the kind of shoes they would make to suit an attitude and personality. Different place also make niche of different kind of shoes. If some of you ever been to state of Punjab . Bihar and UP , you will have plenty of typical old fashioned snout shoes that still defined tradition they till are associated with.. Other cities like Delhi, Mumbai people have fancy, expensive shoes flashing their show off behavior . They would prefer hard big souls shoes indicating their typical rude “ dilli ki boli” which at times sound offensive. Their shoes are self telling their story of utmost leisure ,money and pleasure. Their shoes stand out among others, giving damn care to any other shoe around. They would definitely mind an alien step over them and don’t expose themselves to dusty floors. They are gaudy and flashy..
Coming to kolkata shoes, they are gentle modest and simple. They know what they are meant for and what they ought to serve. They know, a gaudy envoi doesn’t assure there escape from mud or dust. They expect nothing. They are much more conscious and might be seem bunny hopping here and there particulry during rainy days. They belong to middle class family as BATAS, KHADIMS or may be from roadside shoemaker workshop.
Coming to me again, I these days am wearing torn piece of Italian leather, which wouldn’t anything but tell you that either I have had, sometime stolen it from somewhere , or I have landed up to state of behemoth affluence to utter bankruptcy.
Its just that I have detached myself from an upper middle class family to modest middle class living since have left my family for my job after engineering.
Coming to crux again, as I always do, I have tried identifying people make up through the shoes they wear. So if you ever have wondered what this guy is been staring at floor or ground, don’t be in awe, its not I am looking for a lost key. I just am mapping your shoe.
